John Wadley: Profile

Mr John Wadley, MB ChB FRCS FRCS(SN), is a Consultant Neurosurgeon to St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospitals, The London Gamma Knife Centre at Barts, and Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, Essex, where he runs a fortnightly ‘outreach’ clinic.

Mr Wadley has a private practice and carries out private surgery at Springfield Hospital, Chelmsford. He has a dedicated private PA, Jane Killeen, and also acts as an expert witness in selected medico-legal cases.

Mr Wadley is active in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in neurosurgery. He is a tutor on two neurosurgery courses at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is convenor of the Barts & The London Specialist Fellowship course in Neurosurgery, the only national course dedicated for neurosurgeons in training sitting the FRCS(SN) speciality examination prior to becoming consultants.

He is a treating consultant at the London Gamma Knife Centre at Barts, and trained in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery treatment in Pittsburgh, USA. He is a medical advisor to the British Trigeminal Neuralgia Association (TNA UK).

Mr John Wadley is an accomplished neurosurgeon, practising at Springfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex, with a particular interest in:

Cervical Spine procedures for spondylosis, rheumatoid disease and other conditions, including the pioneering of Anterior Cervical Discectomy with PCM Disc Arthroplasty: used to treat neck pain with nerve pain in the arm(s) and cervical myelopathy (spinal cord compression). Close co-operation with spinal therapists (physiotherapy and osteopathy) and pain management experts.

Lumbar Spine procedures for spondylosis and other conditions including keyhole procedures such as microdiscectomy & microforaminotomy, and Laminectomy: used to treat back pain with sciatica and nerve pains and cramps in the legs caused by spinal stenosis. Close co-operation with spinal therapists (physiotherapy and osteopathy) and pain relief experts.

Additional routine neurosurgery including peripheral nerve procedures such as carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve problems, Chiari malformations.

Mr Wadley has NHS and private clinical research interests in brain injury, complex cervical spine surgery including pioneering cervical disc arthroplasty with the largest series in Europe f the PCM system, Trigeminal Neuralgia with one of only two dedicated specialist clinics in the UK, Chiari malformations and Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery.
