Most common symptoms are a rose-colored rash and bleeding into the skin. The two main types are epidemic typhus and endemic typhus. No vaccine is available. Complications include end organ damage, gangrene and bacterial pneumonia. Treatment is done with doxycycline, tetracycline and chloramphenicol.
