Hospitals and clinics treating Minor ailments
Many GP consultations are partly or totally spent on minor ailments, which is defined as a health complaint which, with simple actions, patients could solve themselves. Examples include allergies, athlete's foot, bites and stings, cold and flu-like symptoms, constipation, head lice, and indigestion. Everyone can go to their pharmacist for free advice or to buy over-the-counter medication for a minor illness or ailment through the minor ailment scheme. This is a new service for people, including children, who don't pay prescription charges. The minor ailment scheme allows you easier and more convenient access to the same advice from your pharmacist that you would normally expect from your GP. Where appropriate the pharmacist may dispense over-the-counter medications, free of charge, without having to wait for a GP appointment.
