Trichinosis is also known as trichinellosis. It is a parasitic disease caused by a roundworm trichinella. Humans acquire this infection by eating raw or undercooked meat. Most common source of human infection is undercooked pork. A mild form is usually asymptomatic. A severe infection causes vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal colic, periorbital and facial oedema, petechiae, fever, pruritus and myalgia. Treatment includes bed rest, analgesics and antipyretics. Albendazole may be administered to kill parasitic larvae
