There are two types of surgery used to treat snoring and sleep apnoea. One procedure is called Laser assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP) and the other is called UvuloPharyngoPalatoPlasty(UPPP). LAUP has a lower risk than UPPP. The LAUP procedure uses lasers or high energy radio waves are used to burn the uvula and some of the soft palate. LAUP can cause severe post-operative pain but usually resolves after 2 weeks. This surgery can be performed by an ENT surgeon.
