The nose can be blocked due to a deviated nasal septum or enlarged turbinates. Surgical correction of the blocked nose is achieved either by septoplasty or by turbinate surgery. The bone or cartilage causing the blockage is removed and the mucosa (nasal membrane) is then stitched back in position. Septoplasty is usually carried out under general anaestheticby an ENT surgeon. Possible complications are infection, bleeding, recurrence of the symptoms and failure of the treatment.
