About Dr Raj

Dr Chinnadorai Rajeswaran (Dr Raj) is a Consultant Physician at Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust. Specialising in obesity, diabetes and endocrinology, he has been the clinical lead for obesity, responsible for a large multidisciplinary specialist weight management service. He also runs diabetes and endocrine clinics, as well as providing advice to NHS primary care teams on diabetes and weight management.

Dr Raj has extensive experience in the management of obesity, complex diabetes and endocrine disorders and has been instrumental in establishing several specialist weight loss management centres in the UK and overseas. He is the Director of Simplyweight, a global specialist weight loss management organisation offering specialist online and clinic-based programmes for people with obesity and associated co-morbidities such as diabetes, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, fatty liver, PCOS, erectile dysfunction and infertility.

He has private endocrine and weight loss clinics at Claremont Hospital in Sheffield, Nuffield Leeds Hospital, Simplyweight in Bradford, The London Obesity Clinic in London’s Harley Street as well as seeing many patients in the Huddersfield area.

Dr Raj is a regular speaker at international conferences and has authored books and book chapters on obesity and diabetes. He is the founder and chair of the National Diabetes Forum, a network for healthcare professionals, and is the editor-in-chief of Diabetes in Practice.

Dr Raj is involved in local and international charity work aimed at helping both those with a weight problem and those who go hungry. To this end he has set up ‘The Biggest Help’, the charitable arm of Simplyweight dedicated to fighting hunger and food insecurity in the UK and abroad.

Dr Raj regularly features in the press and media as an expert on obesity, including appearances on the BBC, Sky News and LBC.

Research interests

Dr Raj has a research interest in weight management and diabetes, resulting in numerous journal publications. He has been involved in several national and international multi-centred trials and is currently involved in a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) funded project called MotiVar: Motivating weight loss through a personalised avatar.

Dr Chinnadorai Rajeswaran is involved in regular education of General Practitioners, diabetes specialist nurses, practice nurses, specialist registrars and medical students in the field of weight management, endocrinology and diabetes. He has been a Foundation Training Programme Director and also Honorary Lecturer at the University of Leeds.
