The wrist is usually fractured as a result of a fall, accident or trauma to the wrist. Signs and symptoms of a fractured wrist are extreme pain, swelling and tenderness at the fractured site. Confirmation of a fracture is made by X-ray. Mild fractures are usually treated with painkillers and a splint. The most common treatment option is application of a plaster cast. Fractures with dislocation of the bones are treated with reduction and fixation.
