The main symptoms of urticaria are itching, redness and a raised rash. A rash of acute urticaria disappears within 24 hours. Chronic urticaria may last for 6 to 12 weeks. Stress and alcohol may be considered to be triggers. It occurs as a result of increased histamine release. Treatment is not usually mandatory.
