An emergency operation is required for twisted testis (torsion of the testis). In this procedure, a small incision is made in the scrotum to expose the testis. The affected testis and spermatic cord are then untwisted. The testis is then fixed into position by stitching it to the surrounding tissue to prevent a recurrence. This procedure should be performed within 6 hours of symptoms starting. Blood flow to the testicle may be blocked and the testicle may die if the procedure is not carried out within that time.
