Common symptoms are tonsillitis, pain at the back of throat, swollen and tender glands in your neck and discomfort while swallowing. Other symptoms associated with sore throat are fever, chills, fatigue, coughing, sneezing and a runny nose. Most sore throats subside within 3 to 7 days without treatment. Treatment is symptomatic with paracetamol and ibuprofen to relieve pain and fever. Antibiotics are usually not prescribed for a mild to moderate sore throat.
