Hospitals and clinics providing Prostate surgery (TURP)

Prostate surgery is usually recommended for severe enlargements of the prostate gland or cancer. The most common surgical procedure is a trans-urethral resection of the prostate (TURP) (also called a Prostatectomy). It is performed by a urologist to reduce excess pressure on the urinary bladder. It is performed under general or local anaesthesia. It is done by inserting a small tube through the urethra. An electric loop is then heated and moved across to remove the excess tissue. A common complication of TURP is retrograde ejaculation. Alternatively, prostate resection (using a laser) may be carried out.
