A pilonidal sinus is a small sinus that most commonly develops on the skin between the buttocks. Surgery is the treatment of choice for an infected pilonidal sinus. This procedure is usually carried out under general anaesthesia. The sinus is incised and the pus is drained. A dressing is applied to help the wound heal. Possible complications are recurrence, infection at the site of the wound, pain, fever and discharge of blood or pus.
