Osgood-Schlatter disease is a condition that affects the upper part of the shin bone. This is a painful condition affecting people who engage in sports. It causes pain, swelling and a temporary immobility of the patella and/or shin bone. This is however mild and usually goes away without treatment. Osgood-Schlatter may develop for no apparent reason but it may also be attributed to the overuse of the muscles of the knee.
