Onchocerciasis (river blindness) is a parasitic disease caused by infection by a roundworm called Onchocerca volvulus. The first symptom is usually itching, localized to one quadrant of the body, but it later becomes generalized and also involves the eyes. Transient oedema of part or all of a limb is also an early sign and this is followed by papular urticaria
