Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to remove excess fat tissue from the body. It is not meant to be a treatment for obesity. Common areas where liposuction is performed are buttocks, thighs and abdomen. Small incisions are made in the area being treated and a suction tube is attached to a vacuum. Possible complications are infection, scarring, bruising and numbness.
