Lesch-Nyhan syndrome is a rare condition where the body is unable to digest certain foods which result in an excess of uric acid accumulating in the body. The syndrome is characterized by the absence of an enzyme that is found in the basal ganglia of the brain. Lesch-Nyhan is present since birth and could become evident from childhood to adulthood. The patient has neurological and behavioral problems, delay in the development of motor activities and abnormal reflexes.
