A hernia is a gut, bowel and stomach condition, described as a lump that occurs due to the weakness of the wall of the abdomen; this lump is due to an internal body organ pushing through this weakness. Hernias may only have few symptoms and, often, the lump may be pushed back by the patient. However, coughing or straining could make the lump reappear. A gastroscopy can be used to help with diagnosis. Hernias may occur in different parts of the body.
There are various methods available to repair a hernia which are generally performed by Gastro-intestinal (GI) surgeons or General surgeons.
