Hamstring strains, or hamstring injury, is a tear or injury on the tendon located at the back of the thighs. There is a grading system to determine the severity of hamstring injury: grade 1 for a mild pull, grade 2 for a partial tear and grade 3 for a complete tear. Sudden movements of the legs often result in hamstring injuries. Treatment includes rest of the leg muscles, application of ice and compresses and elevation of the limb. Exercise will also strengthen the hamstrings.
