Glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis)is caused by a virus and, although it is not serious, it may cause weakness and fatigue which can interfere with normal activities. This condition is due to the Epstein-Barr virus; symptoms are high fevers, sore throat, swollen lymph glands in the neck area and extreme weakness. Glandular fever is self-limiting; antipyretics are given for fever, analgesics for pain and bed rest is recommended.
