False eye removal and exchange occurs when the entire eyeball has to be surgically removed from the eye socket. This surgery is normally performed due to a diseased eye, e.g. a malignant tumour or trauma. The diseased eye is removed and a prosthetic eye is is made and inserted into the empty socket. The eyelid and all surrounding tissues of the eye are retained.
