Hospitals and clinics treating Creutzfeldt-jakob disease (CJD)

Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare brain disorder. Problems such as difficulty in hearing, vision, movement and abnormal behaviour present themselves often in old age. It can also lead to death. There are three forms of CJD. One in which no cause is found, the second may be genetic and, finally, the third form can arise from consuming beef from an animal that is affected by a similar disease, usually referred to as 'mad cow disease'. There is no cure available. However, drug treatment can be used to ease symptoms temporarily.
