Hospitals and clinics treating Cartilage (meniscus) injuries

Meniscus is a disc in the knee where it acts as a shock absorber. Rapid twisting or turning of the knee can tear the meniscus. Depending upon the extent of the injury there can be a partial or a complete tear in the meniscus both of which are a bone and muscle condition. It causes pain, stiffness, swelling and redness in the affected region. An X-ray can be used to determine the extent or the tear and surgery may be required for tears causing severe pain and stiffness which will be carried out by an Orthopaedic surgeon. If the tear is not serious then osteopathy or physiotherapy sessions may be used as treatment.
