Bhupal Chitnavis: Profile

Training and experience

Mr Bhupal Chitnavis qualified from Guy’s Hospital Medical School in 1989 and began his training in neurosurgery under the late Professor Edward Hitchcock in Birmingham. He then went on to train at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery with Professor Lindsay Symon, as well as at Great Ormond Street and King’s College Hospital in London.

Whilst at King’s, Mr Chitnavis was encouraged to train in vascular neurosurgery by Professor Anthony Strong and in spinal surgery. He received training in the highly advanced laser assisted high flow cerebral bypass techniques in Utrecht, Netherlands with Professor Cornelius Tulleken.

Mr Chitnavis complemented his neurosurgical expertise with training in orthopaedic spinal surgical techniques at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore and with Professor Jurgen Harms in Germany. Amongst the first neurosurgeons in the UK to specialise exclusively in spinal surgery, he is highly skilled minimally invasive spinal surgery, complex spinal surgery, CyberKnife® and spinal stabilisation (fusion), as well as non-operative management of back and neck pain.
