Non surgical treatment for torn cartilages is NSAIDs (anti-inflammatory drugs), supporting devices and physiotherapy. Surgical removal of a damaged cartilage can be done by an orthopaedic or knee surgeon using many techniques. Important techniques are marrow stimulation, arthroscopic lavage and debridement, mosaicplasty, allograft osteochondral transplantation and autologous chondrocyte implantation. An MRI scan or X-ray can be used to identify the torn cartilage.
