Dr C T Pillai is the Founder and Medical Director of Advanced Vision Care in London’s Harley Street. Regarded as one of the world’s leading laser eye surgeons, he also has extensive experience in corneal grafting, cataract surgery and corneal cross-linking treatment for keratoconus.
Trained in India, the UK and the USA, Dr Pillai has over 25 years’ experience in the field of ophthalmology, working as a refractive surgeon for several well-known clinics in the UK and as a consultant ophthalmic surgeon in the NHS and at hospitals in India.
Dr Pillai completed his Fellowship training in cornea anterior segment diseases in the UK and in Texas University, Dallas, USA in 1994 and went on to work with a number of internationally recognised surgeons including Tom Casey and Professor Dua in the UK, Stephen Wilson and Dr Cavanaugh in the USA and Dr Siganos in Greece.
To date, Dr Pillai has performed over 30,000 laser treatments ranging from LASIK, LASEK and PRK procedures. A pioneer in the field, he was one of the first surgeons in the UK to perform bilateral LASIK laser eye surgery and, as a member of the Bausch and Lomb group think tank, he continues to work at the cutting edge of laser technology innovation. Dr Pillai has published extensively in peer reviewed journals and regularly participates in and presents at international conferences and training courses. He is an international reviewer of scientific articles for the prestigious international publication “Journal of Refractive Surgery “
Dr Pillai founded Advanced Vision Care (AVC) at 77 Harley Street, London in 2003 to meet the need for an independent surgeon-led eye clinic that could offer bespoke laser eye surgery as an alternative to the high street chains. Personally performing all laser procedures at the clinic, he works alongside world-leading surgeons in the field of non-laser corrective eye treatment to provide treatment solutions for cataracts, keratoconus and presbyopia as well as short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism.
Dr Pillai combines his extensive knowledge and expertise with an approach that is hands on, open and friendly. His surgical skills and record of very low complication rates have been recognised in clinical and academic journals such as the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, Eye, Journal of Refractive Surgery. Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science (IOVS), Optician and Cosmetic Surgery.
Dr Pillai’s continuing commitment to remain independent of any particular lens or laser manufacturer ensures that all AVC patients receive treatment that is tailor made to their needs, resulting in the best possible outcomes.
Additionally, Dr Pillai makes himself personally responsible for the continuity of care of each patient and has developed a unique nationwide network of optometrists who are trained to provide local advice on procedures and an unrivalled level of aftercare.
Dr Pillai’s areas of research include corneal vascularisation, specular microscopy in uveitis, amniotic membrane transplantation, excimer laser surgery and dry eye disorders.
