Shashank Gurjar: Profile

Mr Shashank Gurjar is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with a specialist interest in colorectal surgery at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital in Bedfordshire.

He provides private treatment for lower GI conditions at a number of locations in the London area, including BMI Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow, Spire Harpenden Hospital, BMI Bishopswood Hospital in Northwood and One Hatfield Hospital.

Training and experience

Mr Gurjar qualified in medicine from St Mary’s Hospital, London in 1997 and completed his basic surgical training on the King’s College surgical rotation. He undertook research at the Royal Free Hospital and University College London, and completed his specialist training in colorectal surgery in the South East Thames region. He completed his training with a post-CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) fellowship in pelvic floor surgery at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Mr Gurjar was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in 2011 and currently holds a post at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital where he provides a full range of general and advanced colorectal surgery procedures. As co-director of undergraduate education at Luton & Dunstable Hospital, he is responsible for training young surgeons in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, as well as teaching medical students attached to the hospital.

His specialist training in pelvic floor dysfunction allows him to offer patients effective management of evacuatory disorders, as well as surgery for rectal prolapse.

An accredited endoscopist, Mr Gurjar is skilled in gastroscopy, colonoscopy and the removal of bowel polyps.

Research interests

Mr Gurjar has an active research interest in clinical surgery and pelvic floor dysfunction, which has led to published papers in peer-reviewed journals.
