Training and experience

Dr Catrin Bevan graduated from St Bartholomew's Medical School in 1985 and has worked in General Practice for over 20 years. Although the majority of her work has been in the NHS in the UK, Dr Bevan extended and enhanced her practice experience with positions at the American Hospital in Paris, the Middle East and in Poland for the Red Cross, and as an emergency doctor and in private practice in Bermuda.

Prior to moving into private practice, between 1999 and 2013 Dr Bevan was Principal in a large NHS general practice in Surrey.

Women's health services

Led by Dr Catrin Bevan, the women's health programme at The London General Practice covers the full range of women's health issues including menstrual cycle problems, contraception, conception, pregnancy and childbirth, sexual health and menopause. A member of the team is available 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year to offer friendly and caring medical and emotional support for women of all ages.

The Practice's specialist menopause clinic addresses the unpleasant side-effects of the peri-menopause and beyond, offering a range of practical solutions from advice on diet and exercise through to HRT and ways to prevent osteoporosis. Sexual health services available include discreet testing for sexually transmitted infection and psychosexual counselling.

The London General Practice advocates proactive, preventative healthcare informed by regular screening and testing and offers a wide range of screening tests for women, some of which are not routinely available or easy to access on the NHS, including genetic screening for faults in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes associated with breast cancer and screening for ovarian cancer (CA125). DEXA bone density examinations within dedicated osteoporosis clinics are also an important element of the Practice's well-woman screening programme.

Clinical interests

Dr Bevan has a special interest and expertise in women's health, including teenage problems, contraception, menopause and psychosexual counselling. Her other key interests are geriatric and palliative care and bereavement counselling.
