Elaine Scott

Training and experience

Miss Scott qualified as a doctor at University College Hospital in London. Her subsequent specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology included positions at other leading teaching hospitals including the Chelsea and Westminster, St Mary’s and Queen Charlotte’s hospitals in London, the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. She was awarded an MD by the University of London for her research work into the onset of labour at term and the physiology of preterm labour.

Miss Scott was a Consultant at the Royal Free NHS Trust from 2000 until 2017. Undertaking senior leadership roles including Lead Obstetrician, Lead for the labour ward and Lead for maternity risk management, she was responsible for the development of a new state-of-the-art labour ward with home-from-home facilities and a midwifery-led unit. She also established the Trust’s first specialist joint renal/obstetric clinic designed to care for women with transplants and renal problems.  

During her time at the Royal Free, Miss Scott played an active role in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate doctors. She was College Tutor for the Royal College of Gynaecologists (RCOG) for four years and was awarded Fellowship to the RCOG in 2006.

Private practice

Miss Scott has been in full time private practice since 2017. Based at the Portland Hospital, her aim is to provide high quality individualised obstetric and gynaecological care for all patients

Good communication and rapport are at the heart of Miss Scott’s approach. Dealing with both normal pregnancies and those with complicating factors that make them higher risk, she endeavours to ensure that each woman has the information necessary to be able to make informed decisions about her care.

Offering a comprehensive range of pregnancy services, from pre-conception counselling through antenatal care to childbirth and postnatal care, Miss Scott understands that the safe delivery of a healthy baby and the health of the mother are of paramount importance for pregnant woman. While promoting normality whenever appropriate, her extensive experience allows her to quickly identify any problems that may arise and manage them as safely as possible.

Miss Scott also sees women with a variety of gynaecological issues such as menstrual disorders, hormonal disturbances, miscarriage, contraceptive advice, hormone replacement therapy and the menopause. A strong advocate of preventative health, she offers well-woman check-ups and sexual health screening.

Research interests

Miss Scott carried out research into the onset of labour at term and the physiology and preterm labour for her MD thesis. She is the author of several articles, book chapters and guidelines, including six Medic-to-Medic Obstetric pathways used nationally by healthcare clinicians.
