Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon,
Ali Noorani undertook his medical training at the Imperial College School of Medicine (London), qualifying in the year 2000. He followed this with Orthopaedic and Trauma training on the prestigious Royal London Hospital rotation.
Further Specialist Fellowship training in Shoulder, Elbow and Upper Limb Surgery was at the renowned Upper Limb fellowship programmes at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore and The Royal Liverpool Hospital.
Mr Noorani was awarded the prestigious Annual British Shoulder and Elbow Society Fellowship in 2010, followed by the British Orthopaedic Association Fellowship in 2011. He studied Upper Limb and Trauma Surgery in America at Harvard University, the Mayo Clinic, Columbia University, and the Rothman Institute.
Mr Noorani specialises in trauma and upper limb surgery at St Bartholomew’s and Royal London Hospital (Barts Health NHS).
He has used the LEAN methodology to streamline the patient journey in the upper limb service. He has introduced several innovative pathways, including a one-stop clinic where patient assessment, radiological investigations, pre-admission, and scheduling can all be done within 24 hours. Under his leadership, the upper limb service has acquired state of the art surgical equipment to provide patients with the optimal treatment. He has also introduced a therapy clinic, along with rehabilitation protocols, and patient information sheets for upper limb procedures to ensure patients receive timely and effective post-operative physiotherapy.
He is the founding member of the Royal London Orthopaedic and Trauma Society and the Barts Orthopaedic Fund.

As a regular contributor to the academic literature, Mr Noorani is well-published in peer-reviewed journals and is on the review board for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has carried out research in a number of areas including shoulder and elbow instability and is currently the principle investigator on multicentre randomised controlled trials investigating platelet rich plasma (PRP) in shoulder arthroscopy, frozen shoulder and stimulation for training.
His other research interests include Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS), reconstruction of the shoulder and elbow, upper limb joint preservation surgery, scapula fractures and innovation in healthcare.
